Jade has a long history of being a very collectable mineral. The natural lustrous translucent green patina is pleasing to the eye and to the touch. Jade is known for it’s healing powers and mystical properties. It’s hardness factor is similar to quartz, and because it’s a challenge to carve, inferior jade sculpture is easy to spot.
This beautifully hand carved jade grizzly bear family trio highlights the skills of a professional artist. The piece is carved from a lustrous spinach green nephrite jade mined from Alaska, home to some of the largest deposits of the world’s finest nephrite jade. It features mama grizzly and her two cubs about to enjoy a nice meal, each with a fresh caught salmon in their mouths. The trio are standing on a natural shaped triangular jade base, with a small natural finish jade facade behind them.
The mama bear with salmon is appx. 3” long and 2” tall. The overall size of the piece is appx. 4” x 6 1/2” x 2 1/8″” tall and weighs exactly one pound. The surface is smooth and polished, with a very minor vein inclusion on the back of the mama grizzly, otherwise it’s in pristine condition with no chips or scratches.
